SUMMARY:Youth Concerts: The Portland Cello Project
DESCRIPTION:This concert is specifically geared to young people (recommended for ages 8 and up) and all minor attendees will need a supervising adult in attendance with them throughout the performance. \nThe Portland Cello Project is a nationally-recognized performing\, recording and educational group with a revolving cast of cellists. Cello Project (or PCP as their fans affectionately call them) have grown their following and now appear frequently around North America\, from punk rock clubs to symphony halls\, from street parties to exclusive private events. \nThe group developed a three-part philosophy that has mostly remained unchanged over the years: \nTo bring the cello places you wouldn’t normally see it (from wild dance parties\, to formal symphony halls\, to street parties\, to Millennium Park in Chicago…). \nTo perform music on the cello you wouldn’t normally associate with the instrument alongside music from the Western Classical Tradition (from Pantera to Taylor Swift to Kanye West to Elliott Smith\, alongside Bach\, Rossini\, and Saint-Saens\, to name just a few…). \nTo build bridges between different musical communities through educational\, community outreach\, and through collaboration with myriad artists\, from The Dandy Warhols to Garrison Keillor to Ural Thomas to Corin Tucker (Sleater-Kinney) to Jolie Holland to Peter Yarrow (Peter\, Paul and Mary)\, among many others\, and cellists such as Ben Sollee\, Maya Beiser and Zoe Keating. \n“[PCP] concerts are purposely suitable for all demographics: boogie-ing grannies\, head nodding hipsters\, budding middle-school musicians and everyone in between because bringing everyone together in a spirit of collaboration only adds to the philosophy of diversity that PCP proudly upholds.” \nMusic Workshop’s Summer Soundwaves Series brings young people and their families to The Patricia Reser Center for the Arts\, for interactive performances with exciting and inspiring musicians. SUMMARY:Opening Reception for Invisibilia and 1\,000 Moons
DESCRIPTION:The Art Gallery at The Reser\nOpening Reception for Invisibilia and 1\,000 Moons\nFriday\, June 24 | 6-8 pm \nInvisibilia\nJune 22 – August 13\nSandra Honda\, Mei-ling Lee\, and Jefferson Goolsby\nExamining Asian/American identities through photographic journals\, mixed media\, multimedia and performances\, three Oregon artists\, Sandra Honda\, Mei-ling Lee\, and Jefferson Goolsby\, share insights and perceptions of historical and contemporary experiences. Weaving together personal and imagined stories of daily life\, family\, trauma\, and generational grief from mass incarceration of people of Japanese ancestry\, the works portray beautiful and haunting details of loss and displacement. Exploring how people navigate identity in an ever-shifting cultural landscape\, the creative works question beliefs\, and assumptions while offering opportunities to view the world differently. \n1\,000 Moons\nJune 22 – August 13\nEmily Jung Miller – emerging artist\nIn the months after her grandparents’ deaths from COVID\, Emily Jung Miller struggled to stay grounded\, and the understanding of time became distorted and unreal. As a connection to both grandparents\, and to the natural cycles of time\, Miller hand-formed 40 oversize sheets of paper with kelp\, sheet music\, and other materials linked to their history. Cutting the sheets to create a total of 1\,175 collaged ‘moons’\, Miller represented each full moon in her grandmother’s 94 years of life. Stringing the moons together to form a meditative corridor of time\, the installation creates a physical pathway of memories\, allowing viewers a visual and physical path or remembrance for all who have lost\, and recall how many moons we saw together.

SUMMARY:Okee Dokee Brothers and Sonia De Los Santos
DESCRIPTION:Family Music * Bilingual * Grammy Award-Winning \nSomos Amigos: Songs on Common Ground with Sonia De Los Santos and The Okee Dokee Brothers \nFriendship is at the heart of this joyful collaboration between Mexican songstress Sonia De Los Santos and the Americana folk duo The Okee Dokee Brothers. This bilingual program includes both old and new songs that span the musical traditions of North America and illustrates the collective power of singing together and learning from each other. With an adventurous spirit and a common vision of peace and understanding\, Somos Amigos encourages us to explore\, dance\, sing and laugh together\, hand-in-hand. \nAs childhood friends growing up in Denver\, Colorado\, Joe Mailander\, and Justin Lansing were always exploring the outdoors. Now\, as The Grammy Award-Winning Okee Dokee Brothers\, they have put this passion for the outdoors at the heart of their musical collaborations. \nThe two-time Parents’ Choice Award winners have garnered praise from the likes of NPR’s All Things Considered and USA Today and have been called “two of family music’s best songwriters.” Joe and Justin record and perform family music to inspire children and their parents to get outside and experience nature. They believe this message can motivate kids to gain a greater respect for the natural world\, their communities\, and themselves. \nThe Okee Dokee Brothers’ nationwide fan base is drawn to their witty lyrics\, strong musicianship\, and unique folk style. By appealing to the musical needs of the entire family and recognizing that kids deserve quality music\, The Okee Dokee Brothers are working full-time to advance the family music genre. \nThe safety of our patrons\, artists\, staff\, and volunteers continues to be important to us. For Reser Presents performances – all patrons\, regardless of age\, are required to show proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test to attend events until further notice. \nCOVID 19 ATTENDANCE POLICIES \nThe safety of our patrons\, artists\, staff\, and volunteers continues to be important to us.
