SUMMARY:Forest Grove Mariachi Tradición 10th Anniversary Celebration feat. Las Cafeteras
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an unforgettable evening as we celebrate Mariachi Tradición’s 10th Anniversary—a decade of music\, culture\, and community. Founded in 2015 by Lesslie Nuñez in the Forest Grove School District\, this dynamic\, audition-based Forest Grove High School ensemble has become a cherished group in the Portland Metropolitan Area. Featuring violins\, trumpets\, guitars\, vihuela\, guitarron\, harp\, and powerful vocals\, Mariachi Tradición showcases the talent and dedication of its student musicians. \nAs the program has grown over the years\, Mariachi Tradición has had the honor of being invited to be the opening act for Latin Grammy Award-winning artists such as La Santa Cecilia\, Mariachi Flor de Toloache\, and Mariachi Los Camperos on some of the most prestigious stages in Oregon. Additionally\, the group has been featured as performers at the Portland Jazz Festival\, the Pickathon Festival\, as well as the  Festiba Mariachi Festival and the Tucson International Mariachi Conference. \nTo mark this special anniversary milestone\, we are thrilled to welcome the incredible Las Cafeteras—an East-LA band that has toured the world with their unique blend of traditional folk\, Afro-Mexican rhythms & cumbia\, all inspired by their immersion in Son jarocho & zapateado dance. The evening will also feature collaborations with Ballet Folklorico Mexico en la Piel Academia\, students from the FGSD mariachi program and FGMT alumni. The night will be full of surprises and collaborations. \nDon’t miss this special anniversary event\, an unforgettable night of music\, dance\, and celebration!

SUMMARY:It’s Our Time
DESCRIPTION:In its inaugural concert\, the Portland Sage Singers presents an evening of music and stories extolling the simple\, and not so simple\, joys of elderhood. The concert opens with Stephen Sondheim’s powerful anthem\, “Our Time” from Merrily We Roll Along. From there\, the chorus of singers aged 55 and above\, whisks the audience on a journey of shared emotions as varied as the music that ranges from J.S. Bach to Whitney Houston. \nIf laughter is the best medicine\, there will be lots of medicine including a new commissioned piece from Los Angeles composer Dave Volpe. The piece titled “Organ Recital\,” shares the maladies reserved for folks of a certain age. “Senior Psalm” by composer Daniel Gawthrop will also have its world premiere. \nSongs of empowerment include Iconic singer/songwriter Holly Near’s powerful “I Ain’t Afraid” and Labi Siffre’s “Something Inside So Strong.” \nThe chorus sings about coming out about our love in the stunning love song\, “Secret Love” from Calamity Jane and the stunning “in Whatever Time We Have” from Stephen Schwartz’ Children of Eden. The evening ends proudly proclaiming “We Are Survivors” in a rousing finale by Broadway composer Andrew Lippa from Unbreakable. There will be many surprises along the way. The message from Portland Sage Singers is clear. It’s not just “Our Time\,” but high time Portland had a chorus consisting of Q+ Elders and Allies. It will be an auspicious debut. \n80 minutes\, no intermission.\nArtistic Director Dr. Timothy Seelig

Programming will be led by Junebug Play and Learning Space\, joining from Ridgefield\, Washington\, and supported by Cool Storytellers Collective\, bringing playful\, culturally conscious activities for children and families. \n→ A dedicated craft food zone\, highlighting specialty culinary products from across the country\, including Mama Lam’s\, traveling from New York to share their signature Southeast Asian chili sauces and curry pastes\, as well as local favorites like Pan’s Mushroom Jerky\, a nationally recognized plant-based snack brand rooted right here in Oregon. \n  \nEVENT DETAILS: \nLegendary Makers Market: An Asian American Night Market Location: The Round – 12600 SW Crescent St\, Beaverton\, OR 97005 \nSaturday\, July 12\, 2025 | 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. \nSunday\, July 13\, 2025 | 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. \nAdmission: Free to attend with free tickets you can reserve for panels\, family-friendly\, and pet friendly outside. \nFor more information\, visit: www.legendarymakersmarket.com

DESCRIPTION:Join the Portland Symphonic Choir for an immersive audience participation concert experience as part of Summer Sings at The Reser. Whether you’re new to singing or an experienced chorister\, Summer Sings invites you to pick up a score and sing from your seat\, surrounded by members of the Portland Symphonic Choir.  If you prefer to listen\, we’d love to have you come\, listen\, and learn! \nThe first of three Summer Sings this Summer\, this series brings Portland-metro area people together in multigenerational\, participatory performances that uplift local conductors\, soloists and community singers.
