SUMMARY:LaRussell
DESCRIPTION:The Reser is thrilled to present on-the-rise MC LaRussell as the Mainstage headliner to kick off Rhythm & Revolution\, our yearlong exploration of the legacy of Hip Hop culture. Hailing from Vallejo\, CA\, LaRussell has made it his art and his business to celebrate community and locality in everything he does. The rapper has been working for years to build a framework for the music business outside of traditional channels; releasing records on his own label\, running a concert series in his backyard\, and creating resources for other musicians. \nLaRussell pulls musical inspiration from many sources to inspire his tracks. He can deliver cutting rhymes and then flip into a party track like “Give Me a Beat.” Balancing multiple tones and styles has made him a favorite across diverse multigenerational audiences. His community consciousness and varied catalogue make him uniquely qualified to headline and set the tone for Rhythm & Revolution. \nHosted by D.J. OG ONE and featuring opening acts Raaqel and Drew Dru. \nThis all-ages show will start at 6 PM and will be followed by a free + participatory MC cypher in the lobby. \nSet times: 6 PM Drew Dru / 6:30 PM Raaqel / 7 PM LaRussell \nSponsored by Explore Tualatin Valley \n  \nAbout RAAQEL \nRAAQEL\, is a boundary-pushing rapper\, songwriter\, and performer whose work bridges hip-hop\, electronic\, and experimental bass music. Known for her razor-sharp lyricism\, high-voltage performances\, and commanding stage presence\, RAAQEL has carved out a reputation as one of the most dynamic queer female voices in underground rap. \nAbout Drew Dru \nDrew Dru is a rising hip-hop artist out of Portland\, Oregon\, carving his lane with raw energy\, sharp wordplay\, and a style that bridges street storytelling with West Coast bounce. Known online as @LilDrewDru\, he’s been steadily building buzz with his single “Gangster Party” and a growing catalog on streaming platforms. \n \n

SUMMARY:York the Explorer
DESCRIPTION:“York the Explorer” is a groundbreaking folk opera that amplifies the extraordinary story of York\, the enslaved Black man who accompanied Lewis and Clark on the Corps of Discovery expedition\, yet whose contributions have been largely forgotten by history. Based on historical accounts and set to an innovative score that blends folk\, classical\, jazz\, hip hop\, and reggae\, York the Explorer celebrates an unsung American hero whose skill and bravery helped map a nation. The opera also honors the indigenous nations who were displaced by the expansion of the United States\, acknowledging the complex legacy of westward exploration. \nYork the Explorer‘s book and music are composed by GRAMMY®-nominated producer Aaron Nigel Smith\, with lyrics co-written by Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalist Dr. Renee Mitchell. This compelling musical work illuminates York’s remarkable journey of self-discovery and determination as he navigates a complex role in the expansion of the American territory. \nYork the Explorer is a groundbreaking folk opera by Aaron Nigel Smith. \nSponsored by Ronni Lacroute \nhttps://yorktheexplorer.org/ \nSee the York Program HERE.

SUMMARY:Liberace and Liza: The Cedar Hills Have Eyes (A Tribute)
DESCRIPTION:For the first time ever\, David Saffert and Jillian Snow bring their eerily accurate portrayals of Liberace and Liza Minnelli to The Reser—just in time for Halloween\, because nothing says “spooky” quite like sequins\, jazz hands\, and unresolved mother issues. \nIn a show nobody asked for (but everyone will be glad exists)\, these two musical creeps channel the spirits of showbiz legends who famously never performed together—possibly for reasons of cosmic self-preservation. \nExpect piano pyrotechnics\, vocals with zero regard for restraint\, and costume changes that may induce mild motion sickness. It’s cabaret meets séance\, and yes\, we’re hoping for a fog machine. We love fog machines. \nCome for the nostalgia. Stay for the sheer audacity. \nThis Halloween\, Liberace and Liza take The Reser by storm in “Liberace & Liza: The Cedar Hills Have Eyes (A Tribute).” \nWe lock the doors. You’ve been warned. \nSponsored by The Reser Family Foundation \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRjIA6DgbDI

SUMMARY:American Strings: An Evening with John Scofield’s Combo 73 featuring Vicente Archer\, Gerald Clayton & Bill Stewart
DESCRIPTION:Aside from being one of the principal innovators of modern jazz guitar\, John Scofield is a creative artist of an even rarer sort: a stylistic chameleon who has forged a consistent\, rock-solid aesthetic identity. Looking to commemorate his 73rd year\, Scofield has penned a collection of new compositions and re-formed the swinging group – formerly Combo 66 – to tour the music. Rising star Gerald Clayton is an obvious choice on piano\, an instrument central to the tunes. The connection between Scofield and drummer Bill Stewart strengthens as the decades pass. It was Stewart who introduced bassist Vicente Archer to the project eight years ago. Scofield is thrilled with the group and in addition to the musical combustion\, especially enjoys the inter-generational quality – seventies\, fifties and forties represented! Scofield will close 2025 with this band on tour. \nNow in its seventh year\, PRAx and the College of Liberal Arts at Oregon State University present American Strings\, a series of conversations and intimate performances with iconic musicians from the Americas whose perspectives shape our world. Prior guests have included Keb’ Mo’\, Rosanne Cash\, esperanza spalding\, and many more. \nHosted by ethnomusicologist and public historian Kelly Bosworth\, American Strings performances offer audiences the chance to hear artists play and reflect on their practice. In conversation\, artists discuss process\, biography\, and the themes of their work. Conversation is followed by musical performance. Guests typically perform unaccompanied\, but in select cases may appear with their ensembles. \nDr. Kelly Bosworth is Mary Jones and Thomas Hart Horning Assistant Professor of Public History and Ethnomusicology at Oregon State University\, where she teaches courses such as “Social Change and American Popular Music” and “Musical Worlds of the Pacific Northwest.”She works at the intersection of sound\, place\, and belonging. Her research on music/sound/noisein U.S. history delves into the diverse archives of musicmaking\, reconstructing often-silenced histories through the songs and sounds associated with place. Her PhD dissertation (Indiana University\, 2024) explored “The Music of Miracle City: Vanport\, Oregon and the Sonic Imaginaries of Multiracial Democracy.” \nSponsored by John and Kate Stirek

SUMMARY:BLACK MATTER Closing Celebration
DESCRIPTION:BLACK MATTER Closing Celebration & Social Practice Performance Featuring Master Artist Michael Bernard Stevenson Jr. \nFirst Friday\, November 7\, 2025 | 6:00 – 9:00 pm (performance at 6:30) | Art Gallery \nFree and open to the public \nIf you’ve been inspired by the work you’ve seen in the exhibition\, join us in sending it off with some love by meeting the artists at our closing celebration and participating in a unique performance. Master Artist Michael Bernard Stevenson Jr. Stevenson activates the Urban Shaman—an imagined and embodied ancestral self—in direct with capitalism’s totem: the Charging Bull on Wall Street. Through ritualized struggle\, Stevenson exposes the friction between creative agency and economic oppression. This performative act of resistance becomes both a reclamation of denied heritage and a challenge to systemic commodification. In this spiritually healing somatically engaged action\, Stevenson transforms absence into presence\, conjuring a cultural lineage lost to erasure and reimagined through artful defiance. \nLearn more about Black Matter. \nPhoto Credit: Joel Dowling\n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Michael Kaeshammer
DESCRIPTION:Michael Kaeshammer isn’t so much a piano player as a piano whisperer\, a master musician and songwriter able to coax dazzling\, kaleidoscopic sounds from his instrument in a way few can rival. That gift powers Turn It Up\, Kaeshammer’s superb 15th album\, broadly described as “eclectic yet accessible jazz-based pop”. Across a brilliant\, globe-trotting career highlighted by nine tours of China\, three appearances at the Olympics\, and countless shows opposite international superstars\, the German-born\, B.C.- based Kaeshammer has electrified audiences with his indelible repertoire and consistently positive outlook on life which infuses his lyrics. “I am a very positive person\,” confirms the seven-time JUNO Award nominee and unabashed foodie\, who hosts cooking show Kaeshammer’s Kitchen on Vancouver Island’s CHEK TV. “I really love playing shows and being on-stage. If Turn It Up helps me to do more of that\, then I’m all in. Music is my favorite thing to do.”

SUMMARY:Hasta La Muerte with Las Cafeteras
DESCRIPTION:From the imagination of Las Cafeteras\, “Hasta La Muerte” is a 2 act\, multi-dimensional theatrical and musical performance that explores the stages of grief and loss through the celebration of life and death. The production revisits Mexican folklore to tell new stories\, engage old archetypes\, challenge patriarchy\, uplift the role of curanderas and re-examine our imagination about “death” and the “after-life.” \n“Hasta La Muerte” is an enthralling new production celebrating Life and Death\, in the spirit of the Indigenous/Mexican practice\, known as Day of the Dead. \n“Hasta La Muerte” showcases mesmerizing choreography\, poetry\, combined with a score of original and traditional songs\, to showcase a night of transcendent color\, sound and a moving invitation to travel through time\, rhythm and memory. \n“Hasta La Muerte” is a work that embraces the power of storytelling\, as a form of processing grief\, and sharing love with those in the beyond. Love\, not sadness\, allows us to celebrate and remember those that have gone and remember that “death is not the end\, it is just the beginning.” \nSponsored by Explore Tualatin Valley

SUMMARY:2nd Annual Mākeke Kalikimaka
DESCRIPTION:Post-pandemic\, there was an influx of markets in Oregon that featured all Hawaiʻi and Pacific Islander small businesses and while it was more consistent a few years ago\, we are continuing to see a decline in Pacific-Islander representation. With Mākeke Kalikimaka\, we welcome ALL vendors\, but supporting Pacific Islander-owned businesses will be at the forefront of this program– to create a space that amplifies their expertise\, values and all that they have to offer. Through this initiative\, KALOHCC hopes to reignite interest and support for Pacific Islander businesses\, ensuring their presence is recognized and celebrated on the continent and within our communities. \nMākeke Kalikimaka is a FREE Holiday Market for the community to support over 15 craft\, art\, jewelry\, and clothing vendors. Come and support small businesses! First 100 attendees in line will receive an exclusive KALO Maʻi Magic Bag! We will also be doing raffles and distributing recipe kits.
