SUMMARY:Echoes of Life
DESCRIPTION:An evening of contrast\, beauty\, and reflection\, Echoes of Life brings together the brilliance of classical ballet and the searching voice of contemporary creation. \nThe program opens with Paquita (Act III)\, a dazzling celebration of classical ballet technique and virtuosity. Rooted in the grand tradition of 19th-century ballet\, this iconic work showcases precision\, elegance\, and the radiant unity of the ensemble\, embodying the enduring spirit and discipline of classical Ballet. \nIn contrast\, Ye Li’s new contemporary Ballet work Can You See? offers an introspective and deeply human exploration of light—not only as a physical presence\, but as a metaphor for awareness\, compassion\, and our shared humanity. The work traces both an inner and collective journey\, searching for meaning\, identity\, and the quiet moments that define what it is to be human. \nAt its core lies a simple yet profound question: can we truly see one another? Through evolving movement and shifting relationships\, the piece reflects the fragile yet powerful connections that bind us. It invites us to pause\, to look closer\, and to recognise the unseen impact of our actions—how even the smallest gesture of kindness can illuminate another’s life. \nTogether\, these two works form a dialogue between past and present\, form and feeling\, clarity and ambiguity. Echoes of Life celebrates not only the evolution of ballet\, but also the shared human experience—where tradition meets transformation\, where connection takes shape\, and where every movement leaves a lasting echo. \nPhoto by Jingzi Zhao

SUMMARY:Crossing Borders: Brahms Piano Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Few things in our fractured world bring us together quite like music\, connecting us with our shared humanity across borders and time. Premiered by Clara Schumann in 1861 and famous for its fiery “Rondo alla Zingarese” finale\, Brahms’s youthful and exuberant Piano Quartet in G Minor transports us to both a young Brahms (he was just 23 when he started composing it) and to Hungary with its folk inspiration. Two soaring solo works by Austrian American composer Fritz Kreisler magically take us to Vienna in the hands of virtuoso violinist and CMNW Protégé Alumnus Claire Wells. This program even spans the mightiest oceans with a new CMNW-commissioned premiere by Donghoon Shin\, whose music encompasses influences of both his Korean heritage and his London home. Don’t miss this U.S. premiere featuring renowned mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano.

SUMMARY:Hard Rain & Hallelujah
DESCRIPTION:Prepare for a collision of two poetic universes. This performance weaves together the grit and social consciousness of Bob Dylan with the haunting\, spiritual elegance of Leonard Cohen. Through a curated selection of their most iconic works—from “Blowin’ in the Wind” to “Hallelujah”—this production explores the themes of love\, rebellion\, and redemption that defined a generation. It’s more than a tribute; it’s a theatrical exploration of the lyrics that changed the world\, with performances by the amazing Brigitta Teuscher\, Jason Wells\, Molly Tentarelli\, and James Latham. They are joined by the drums of Max Tucker\, and incredible guitars of Chris Clark-Johnson. \nDeeply influenced by Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday\, Brigitta Teuscher’s voice is a heady mix of nostalgia and purposeful emotional depth. A contralto jazz vocalist with roots in Portland\, Oregon\, her voice has been lauded as having a rare mix of unconventional warmth and power. Her songwriting and production celebrates jazz evolution while incorporating contemporary elements to give traditional styles new legs. \nShe was the Best Vocalist winner at the Teagarden Jazz Festival singing for the Jazz Legacy Band and lead vocalist for five years in the internationally renowned Synthesis Jazz Band. Has experience touring in Sweden\, Finland\, Latvia\, Lithuania\, England\, the Dominican Republic\, Cuba\, and Puerto Rico. Performance highlights include getting the first triple encore in the Saukraasti Jazz Festival’s history\, being a featured vocalist at the National Theatre of Cuba\, and performing at Festinord’s 50th Anniversary in Stockholm\, Sweden. Her work has been featured on albums such as Downbeat and Leaving Vancouver. Brigitta’s love of improvisation is enhanced by her background in diverse styles such as bossa nova\, rumba\, swing\, bebop\, New Orleans style traditional jazz\, funk\, and gypsy jazz.

SUMMARY:From Tragedy to Legacy
DESCRIPTION:Program \nVerdi – Prelude to Act I of La Traviata\nElgar – Cello Concerto in E minor\nYarden Cavenor\, cello\nBeethoven – Symphony No. 5 \nThis program is united by a theme of Tragedy—works that were initially met with disappointment\, uncertainty\, or misunderstanding at their premieres\, yet ultimately became enduring masterpieces of the classical repertoire. From the intimate sorrow of Verdi’s La Traviata Prelude to the inexorable struggle and triumph of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony\, each piece reflects music born of adversity and transformed by time. At the heart of the program is Elgar’s deeply emotional Cello Concerto\, performed by young Israeli cellist Yarden Cavenor. Together\, these works stand as powerful reminders that some of the greatest legacies in music emerged from moments of doubt and tragedy.

Šafková began with a simple premise: that most of what goes wrong in our lives and our societies can be traced to one of three causes — bad luck\, poor judgment\, or scoundrels. Her choreography gives each its due by shifting between movements that are\, at turns\, combative\, sorrowful\, and ironic. This piece for eight dancers locates the personal inside the systemic\, finding in individual bodies the full\, complicated weight of collective failure — and the stubborn persistence of hope.
