He’ll play songs from his latest album\, “Seek the Love You’re Yearning.” \nBadi Assad: A native of São Paulo\, Brazil\, Badi is one of the world’s most respected guitar players. She’s also an innovative performing songwriter who pioneered a “one-woman-band” style that blends vocal percussion and body rhythms. \nHubby Jenkins is a gifted singer and multi-instrumentalist. DESCRIPTION:Join The Reser for an engaging and participatory performance during First Friday. Featuring the sculptural and performative works of Sadé DuBoise\, guests will enjoy sharing the story of The Giving Tree Was Black. Reimagining a familiar story through the lens of Black motherhood and generational endurance\, Sadé DuBoise stands in silence\, her body becoming a living form—rooted and adorned with paper charms\, seed pouches\, and crochet fragments. Viewers of all ages are invited to approach and gently remove these offerings from her form. Expanding DuBoise’s self-portraiture into a ritual of reclamation and reciprocity\, centering the labor of Black women who have long been asked to give everything. Here\, the tree gives—but on her own terms. \nEach seed pouch contains wildflower seeds and instructions to scatter in barren places\, extending this moment of care into the world beyond the Gallery. Alongside the performance\, a branch shelf with a wooden bowl remains as a space for continued interaction. DESCRIPTION:Multiple award-winning actress and singer Lea Salonga is renown across the world for her powerful voice and perfect pitch. Lea most recently starred in the new musical Here Lies Love at the Broadway Theater and headlined Old Friends (alongside Bernadette Peters) on London’s West End. Her latest album\, Sounding Joy | The Holiday Album\, was released by Center Stage Records last November. \nLea is best known for her Tony Award winning role in Miss Saigon. In addition to the Tony\, she has won the Olivier\, Drama Desk\, Outer Critics Circle and Theatre World Awards. She was also the first Asian to play Eponine in the musical Les Misérables on Broadway and returned to the beloved show as Fantine in the 2006 revival. On Broadway\, Lea starred in the 2018 Broadway revival of Once on This Island as the Goddess of Love\, Erzulie. The show’s return to the Broadway stage earned a Tony Award for “Best Revival of a Musical” and also garnered Lea and the cast a Grammy nomination for “Best Musical Theater Album.” She has also been seen on Broadway in Allegiance and Flower Drum Song. \nMany fans of all ages recognize Lea as the singing voice of Princess Jasmine from Aladdin and Fa Mulan for Mulan and Mulan II. DESCRIPTION:Noam Pikelny is widely recognized as the preeminent banjoist of his generation. \nHailed by the Chicago Tribune as the “pros top banjo picker\,” Noam is a founding member of Punch Brothers\, a string ensemble which The Boston Globe calls “a virtuosic revelation” and The New Yorker describes as “wide- ranging and restlessly imaginative.” Pikelny was awarded the first annual Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass and is a two-time International Bluegrass Music Association Banjo Player of the Year. In 2019\, Noam was awarded the “Best Folk Album” Grammy for the Punch Brothers’ release\, All Ashore. DESCRIPTION:“York the Explorer” is a groundbreaking folk opera that amplifies the extraordinary story of York\, the enslaved Black man who accompanied Lewis and Clark on the Corps of Discovery expedition\, yet whose contributions have been largely forgotten by history. Based on historical accounts and set to an innovative score that blends folk\, classical\, jazz\, hip hop\, and reggae\, York the Explorer celebrates an unsung American hero whose skill and bravery helped map a nation. The opera also honors the indigenous nations who were displaced by the expansion of the United States\, acknowledging the complex legacy of westward exploration. \nYork the Explorer‘s book and music are composed by GRAMMY®-nominated producer Aaron Nigel Smith\, with lyrics co-written by Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalist Dr. Renee Mitchell. DESCRIPTION:Aside from being one of the principal innovators of modern jazz guitar\, John Scofield is a creative artist of an even rarer sort: a stylistic chameleon who has forged a consistent\, rock-solid aesthetic identity. Looking to commemorate his 73rd year\, Scofield has penned a collection of new compositions and re-formed the swinging group – formerly Combo 66 – to tour the music. Rising star Gerald Clayton is an obvious choice on piano\, an instrument central to the tunes. The connection between Scofield and drummer Bill Stewart strengthens as the decades pass. It was Stewart who introduced bassist Vicente Archer to the project eight years ago. Scofield is thrilled with the group and in addition to the musical combustion\, especially enjoys the inter-generational quality – seventies\, fifties and forties represented! Scofield will close 2025 with this band on tour. \nNow in its seventh year\, PRAx and the College of Liberal Arts at Oregon State University present American Strings\, a series of conversations and intimate performances with iconic musicians from the Americas whose perspectives shape our world. Prior guests have included Keb’ Mo’\, Rosanne Cash\, esperanza spalding\, and many more. \nHosted by ethnomusicologist and public historian Kelly Bosworth\, American Strings performances offer audiences the chance to hear artists play and reflect on their practice. Tafreshi created The World At Night program in 2007 with the message of One People One Sky and has been directing its team of photographers in approximately 30 countries. He received the 2009 Lennart Nilsson Award\, the world’s most recognized scientific imaging award at the time\, for his effort to reconnect humanity with the natural world using night sky images. For 5 decades\, he has led the way in this Japanese style of drumming in the U.S.\, and will be touring with his Contemporary Ensemble. \nAs jazz percussionist and early innovator in Japanese taiko\, Kenny Endo embodies the history of taiko in the U.S. His adventurous spirit continues to stretch the taiko genre\, incorporating influences like funk\, jazz\, Afro-Cuban & Hawaiian\, with roots firmly grounded in tradition. His performances are nuanced\, brilliant\, exciting! \n“… the concert was absolutely amazing.
