SUMMARY:Reaching for the Stars
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of their 20th Anniversary\, ISing Choir will perform the West Coast premiere of “To Shiver the Sky\,” a musical journey celebrating the spirit of exploration and mankind’s quest to conquer the heavens. This monumental oratorio on the history of flight\, composed by Grammy Award winner Christopher Tin\, will be performed under the direction of Stephen Galván with full orchestral accompaniment\, and feature acclaimed soloists Arwen Myers (soprano) and Steven Evans-Renteria (tenor). The work sets to music various texts by the world’s greatest astronomers\, authors\, inventors\, and pilots\, including da Vinci\, Copernicus\, Jules Verne\, Amelia Earhart\, and John F. Kennedy. Also included on the program will be the world premiere of “Perfect Silence\,” a new work by composer and former ISing Assistant Conductor David Walters commissioned by ISing Choir. “Perfect Silence” is a musical exploration of how and why we come to know the universe. The concert will conclude with “We Come A-Darkly Caroling” by David Lovrien\, a compilation of Christmas favorites sprinkled with humor and wit.

Three-time Grammy winner Mark O’Connor has redefined American string music\, blending classical\, jazz\, and bluegrass into his own signature style. Joined by his wife\, violinist Maggie O’Connor\, the duo delivers dazzling fiddle tunes and soul-stirring duets that celebrate the depth and beauty of American string traditions. \nMark O’Connor began his creative journey at the feet of American fiddling legend Benny Thomasson\, and the iconic French jazz violinist Stéphane Grappelli. Today\, he has melded these influences into a new American classical music\, and is perpetuating his vision of an American School of String Playing. Mr. O’Connor has won three Grammys\, seven CMA awards and several national fiddle\, guitar and mandolin champion titles. Mr. O’Connor has composed nine concertos and two symphonies recorded by the Baltimore Symphony\, London Philharmonic\, Colorado Symphony among others. O’Connor is well-known for his chamber music including his million-selling composition “Appalachia Waltz” featuring Yo-Yo Ma for the Sony Classical label. His recent album back on his own label OMAC Records is Life After Life\, an Americana music collection of his original songs and some classics he sings with his wife Maggie O’Connor who is featured on lead vocals. 2025 sees the release of their new holiday music album\, A Christmas Du0 – captured live at Sheldon Hall in St. Louis from Mark’s perennial An Appalachian Christmas tour. O’Connor released his memoir a few years ago\, Crossing Bridges: My Journey from Child Prodigy to Fiddler Who Dared the World. \nMr. O’Connor has authored a series of educational books called the O’Connor Method and is now the fastest growing violin method in the country. The O’Connor Method features American music styles\, creativity\, cultural diversity and western classical technical training. Comedy for Peace brings together a rotating lineup of performers who share their personal experiences and perspectives in the most original and hilarious way. \nOver the past six years\, Comedy for Peace has presented more than 250 shows in over 100 cities across the United States and Canada and has been featured at the New York Comedy Festival three times\, most recently in November 2025. \nThis is not a political event. DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed nature writer Robert Macfarlane proclaimed that “if snow could sing\, it would sing like Julie Fowlis.” Hailing from the Outer Hebrides and now based in the Highlands\, Julie Fowlis is a multi-award winning singer whose music is deeply influenced by the Hebridean islands where she grew up and by the Highland landscapes where she now resides. Voted Musician of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards 2023\, and with a career spanning several studio albums and numerous high profile collaborations\, her ‘crystalline’ and ‘intoxicating’ vocals have enchanted audiences around the world. \nShe will forever be recognized for singing the theme songs to Brave\, Disney Pixar’s Oscar\, Golden Globe and BAFTA winning animated film\, set in the ancient highlands of Scotland. One of these songs was long-listed for an Oscar. A winner of ‘Folk Singer of the Year’ at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards\, Julie has graced stages around the world\, from village halls in the Highlands to Carnegie Hall in New York\, the Mozart Concert Hall in Vienna\, The Philharmonie de Paris\, Shakespeare’s Globe in London and the World Festival of Sacred Music in Fez\, Morocco.
