This program is united by a theme of Tragedy—works that were initially met with disappointment, uncertainty, or misunderstanding at their premieres, yet ultimately became enduring masterpieces of the classical repertoire. From the intimate sorrow of Verdi’s La Traviata Prelude to the inexorable struggle and triumph of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, each piece reflects music born of adversity and transformed by time. At the heart of the program is Elgar’s deeply emotional Cello Concerto, performed by young Israeli cellist Yarden Cavenor. Together, these works stand as powerful reminders that some of the greatest legacies in music emerged from moments of doubt and tragedy.
