In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, The Immigrant Story, co-presented with the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts in collaboration with Portland Opera, presents The American Story Live: 250 Years of Becoming.

This powerful evening of storytelling and music invites audiences to experience 250 years of American history through four extraordinary lives, revealing an America that is both familiar and newly discovered.

Woven throughout is a stirring tapestry of music—from African American spirituals to gospel, hip-hop, and mariachi—featuring acclaimed artists Alfrelynn Roberts, 3rd Twin, and Gemanereida Barragán-Cruz. Together, story and song illuminate the many voices that have shaped—and continue to shape—our ever-evolving American story.

More than a performance, The American Story Live: 250 Years of Becoming is an invitation to reflect on the stories that too often have been left out of our shared history. It is a moving artistic paean to resilience, belonging, and the ongoing pursuit of justice, reminding us that the American story is still being written.

Join us on Friday, October 30, 2026, for an unforgettable evening that will inspire conversation long after the final note is played.

This free performance is made possible through the generous support of the Zidell Family Foundation. Additional programming support is provided by the Ronald W. Naito, MD Foundation, Oregon Community Foundation, Roundhouse Foundation, and a grant from the Richard B. Siegel Foundation.
