Nontombi Naomi Tutu
Race & Gender Justice Activist
The Rev. Nontombi Naomi Tutu, the third child of Archbishop Desmond and Nomalizo Leah Tutu, has led a career shaped by the complexities and challenges of growing up black and female in apartheid South Africa —framing her life as an activist for human rights. Those experiences taught her that our whole human family loses when we accept situations of oppression.
About the Series
WorldOregon’s International Speaker Series, which began in 2000, is one of the nation’s premier platforms for international affairs. For more than two decades, the series has put you in the room with the global leaders, visionaries, and inspiring voices that are changing our world.
Now in its 23rd year, the International Speaker Series continues its tradition of presenting a broad spectrum of the people, big ideas, and issues framing our role on the world stage — with a focus this spring on bold voices confronting global violence and human rights, gender justice, political and cultural polarization, and movements toward a more peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous future.
