In a world that moves at a crazy pace, we often rush forward, barely pausing to reflect on what has brought us to this moment. The Portland Sage Singers have traversed many miles in our lives, and we love the songs that have accompanied us through both the joys and sorrows of growing into elderhood.

Rearview Mirror gives us the perfect platform to look at decades gone by…specifically the ones in which Sage Singers were born: the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s! We are paying homage to that soundtrack of our early years. We’ll be taking you from Tuxedo Junction to Jailhouse Rock and If I Had a Hammer!

Fun music, such as “Tuxedo Junction,” “The Peppermint Twist,” and “”Hair” kept things lively even in difficult times of unrest in our country. This was reflected in powerful protest songs that are still front and center today, from Woodie Guthrie to Pete Seeger.

Sprinkled in will be songs we would share with our younger selves if we could as well as what we would like to tell the next generation about what we’ve learned.

You’ll want to sing along, no doubt. While some memories may feel distant, our musical rearview mirror reveals that “objects are closer than they appear.”
