    Shine the Light: A Community Celebration

    Join us for Shine the Light, a free, community open house and celebration! This family day will include art appreciation, theater and art activities, and fantastic performances featuring many beloved local performers and organizations including Barrio Mestizo, Dance Fireworks, Elsie Stuhr Fire Rhythm Group, Sultanov Ballet Academy, and more!

    The Art Gallery at The Reser will feature hands-on activity stations including wood block printing, chroma windows, and origami. This event is free to attend and all ages are welcome!

    Deepa’s Dance Academy – Indian dance / 12:00 PM

    Sultanov Ballet Academy – performing selections from Cinderella / 12:30 PM

    Elsie Stuhr Fire Rhythm Group – percussion group / 1:45 PM

    Dance Fireworks – ballroom dance for all ages with a dance party / 2:20 PM

    HANDS-ON ACTIVITY STATIONS / 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM

    Wood Block Printing with Kanani Miyamoto – Lobby South windows / Kanani Miyamoto is a Hawaiian/Japanese printmaker that created our beautiful Across Oceans ‘printstallation’. Please join Kanani as she shows you how to create your very own prints and leave some for her to incorporate in a community installation later this fall at The Reser. The community installation will be on view through May of 2025.

    Translucents – Lobby Plaza Windows / Hawaiian and Japanese colors and stylized imagery were used in Kanani Miyamoto printstallation, Across Oceans. Come create one of Kanani’s images, or one of your own & decorate your windows at home. 

    Printmaking Station – Lobby Theater wall / The Great Wave is a colorful woodblock print created by Hokusai in the 1830’s and is one of the most famous Japanese woodblock prints depicting Mt. Fuji and a crashing wave. Stop by the printing station to create your own great wave print, or any other image you desire in the main lobby.

    Creative Origami Exploration station – Lobby North windows / Join in on the fun and create your very own Origami characters. Participants can follow easy to make directions or choose to make one of their own character creations in this self-directed activity.
